Supporting pupils with medical conditions

Wednesday, October 01, 2014

On 1 September 2014, the Department for Education (DfE) published updated guidance on supporting pupils at school in England with medical conditions.

Schools are now under a duty to implement new policies setting out clear measures and procedures, which must be put in place, to support pupils with medical conditions whilst at school. There should be a clear outline of the specific roles of the school leaders, school staff, healthcare professionals, pupils and parents in ensuring that the child’s needs are effectively supported when suffering from long-term or complex medical conditions. The aim of the DfE guidance is to ensure that all children have full access to education, including school trips and physical education, regardless of any medical condition.

To assist our clients in executing these changes, Judicium have created a policy document that schools can implement to comply with these developments. Our intention has been to draft a user-friendly policy that clearly highlights the key roles and responsibilities of specific individuals, which ultimately safeguards staff by providing accurate guidance for the school to follow.

The ‘Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions Policy’ is available to all of existing Legal Support Clients, however should you wish to join this service and receive a copy of our policy documentation then please contact us here at Judicium -
